Things people ask before they book

Collected off the phone and the front desk. If yours is not covered here, call (843) 555-0118 and ask — nobody here works on commission, so there is no reason to be vague with you.

I am not very good. Is a fitting wasted on me?

It is the opposite. A low handicap can compensate for equipment that is slightly wrong; a newer player usually cannot, so the mismatch shows up as a slice or a chunked shot they then try to fix with their swing. If you are early in the game, the argument for getting sized correctly is stronger, not weaker. We fit plenty of people who have never broken a hundred.

Do I have to buy clubs from you afterward?

No. The session fee covers the bench time and the written spec sheet, and the sheet is yours regardless. Some clients build here, some order online with our numbers, and some discover their current set was already close and just need a regrip. All three are fine outcomes.

How long does a session take?

Single-category sessions run sixty to ninety minutes depending on the club. A full-bag block is three hours with a break in the middle. We do not stack appointments back to back, so running a few minutes over is not a problem.

What should I bring?

The clubs you currently play, the shoes you actually wear on the course, and a glove if you use one. If you have an old scorecard or know roughly what you shoot, mention it. Nothing else is required.

My swing changes day to day. Will the numbers even mean anything?

Everyone is inconsistent; that is why we take a large enough sample and look at the pattern rather than the best swing. What we are really measuring is your tendency, and tendencies are surprisingly stable even when individual shots are not. If you are unusually off on the day, we will say so and reschedule rather than build to bad data.

Can my child be fitted, and at what age?

Yes, generally from around age six once they can make a repeating motion. Junior sizing is driven by height and strength rather than age, and it needs revisiting roughly every twelve months during growth years. We keep a short junior session on the menu specifically so this does not cost a fortune every year.

I am seventy-two and losing distance every season. Is that a fitting problem?

Partly. Distance loss with age is real and no shaft reverses it entirely, but most golfers in that situation are still swinging equipment chosen for a faster version of themselves. Total club weight, shaft weight, and grip size are usually the three levers that matter, and they can give back a meaningful amount of what feels lost.

Are women fitted differently from men?

Women are fitted the same way anyone is: by measuring the actual swing. What differs is that off-the-rack womens equipment collapses an enormous range of swings into one soft, light, short specification, so the gap between stock and correct tends to be wider. Some women end up in what would be labelled a mens regular; some end up softer than any stock ladies offering. Both are normal.

Do you use a launch monitor?

Yes, and it stays behind the ball rather than off to the side. But the monitor is a measuring tool, not the fitter. If a spec produces good numbers and feels awful in your hands, the numbers lose that argument.

How long until my clubs are ready?

Five to twelve days for most builds. Components we stock go faster; a special-order shaft or a custom-stamped wedge can take longer. You get a phone call when the set hits the bench and another when it is finished.

What if the new clubs do not feel right after a few rounds?

Bring them back within sixty days of pickup and we will adjust length, lie, swing weight, or grip build-up at no charge. That covers the settling-in period where a spec that tested well needs a small nudge. Component changes beyond adjustment are quoted separately.

Do you fit left-handed golfers?

Yes. The sample wall is thinner on the left side than the right, which is an industry problem rather than a studio one, but every category is covered and anything missing can be ordered in for the session.

Can I bring someone with me?

Please do. There is a couch and a coffee pot. Spouses and parents often catch things about setup and posture that we would have to ask three questions to uncover.

Do you sell used or trade-in clubs?

We do not run a used inventory. If you have clubs coming out of the bag we will tell you honestly what they are worth and where in Charleston tends to give a fair number for them.

Still deciding?

Call and describe the shot that annoys you most. In about four minutes we can usually tell you whether a fitting will help, and if it will not, we will say that too.
