What people said afterward

Collected from follow-up calls and emails, printed with permission and lightly trimmed for length. We asked for the honest version, including the sessions where the answer was "your clubs are fine."

Ray D. — James Island Iron session

I came in convinced I needed a stiffer shaft because that is what my buddies play. Ninety minutes later I left with something lighter and softer than my old set, and the ball actually goes where I aim it now. Dana walked me through why, twice, because I did not believe her the first time.

Bernice K. — Mount Pleasant Full bag

I am sixty-eight and had been playing the same set since my husband bought them for me in 2011. Nobody had ever suggested the grips were too small for my hands, which turned out to be most of my problem. Three hours, a whole new set of numbers, and I am hitting greens I had written off.

Tomas R. — Summerville Driver session

Honest experience: they told me my driver was already close and the real issue was the three wood I never hit. Charged me for one session, not two, and fixed the club that needed fixing. I have sent four people there since.

Priya N. — Daniel Island Iron session

I had been told for years that I needed ladies clubs because I am a woman. Turns out I swing hard enough for something considerably firmer, and the light shafts I had been fighting were the reason everything went left. Nobody had ever bothered to measure.

Cal W. — West Ashley, on behalf of his son Junior sizing

My boy is eleven and grew four inches over one summer. Marcus measured him, adjusted three clubs and replaced two, and the whole thing cost less than a new junior set would have. We are going back in the spring for the next check.

Dolores M. — Charleston Putter session

Gwen watched me putt for ten minutes before touching a single club and then explained that my putter was two inches too long and had been making me stand too far from the ball my entire adult life. Cut it down that afternoon. Best hundred and ten dollars I have spent on golf.

Everett S. — Moncks Corner Wedge session

Seventy-four years old and I had a fifty-two, a fifty-six, and a sixty that all went the same distance because of how I swing now. We rebuilt the bottom of the bag around three actual gaps. It made short game practice worth doing again.

Janelle A. — Johns Island Two-category block

What I appreciated was that the launch monitor was not the boss of the room. A couple of the shafts that produced the best numbers felt like broomsticks and they moved on without arguing about it. The one I ended up with feels like mine.

Hugh P. — Beaufort Full bag

Drove up ninety minutes on a recommendation and would do it again. The written sheet at the end is the part nobody else gives you. I ordered two of the clubs elsewhere because of timing and they did not blink at it.

Marguerite L. — Mount Pleasant Spec check

Brought back the set they built for me two years ago for a tune-up. Two clubs had drifted a degree flat and one grip was worn through. Forty-five dollars, thirty minutes, and it feels new again. I did not know that service existed.

On the numbers we do not publish

You will notice nobody above claims a specific yardage gain. We stopped printing those because the figure depends on so many things — the day, the ball, the turf, the golfer's week — that it stops meaning anything useful. What we will promise is a spec you can repeat.

Your turn on the bench

Sessions run one golfer at a time and fill up a week or two out in spring and fall.
